Tête-à-Tête with Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen

In a swift passage of time, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen has transitioned from being an energetic young boy to emerging as a rising star in the Danish film industry. We had the privilege of welcoming Lucas to our flagship boutique in the heart of Copenhagen, where we had a conversation about childhood dreams, favorite wardrobe choices, and the significant role clothing plays in portraying characters.

/Name, Age, Profession

Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, 23, actor and co-owner of Rallo Bar in Nyhavn.

/Please introduce yourself.

I am a guy from Copenhagen, Denmark. Throughout my life, my parents have been divorced, resulting in my childhood being divided between Frederiksberg and Tåsinge, Fyn. My passion for acting began to blossom during my early years, as I found myself often exuding excessive energy in school. Since then, I have had the immense privilege of actively pursuing this dream, and I continue to live and cherish it to this day.

/What are you passionate about?

I've recently partnered with some friends to open a bar in collaboration with a theater called 302, a lesser-known gem in the theater scene. We were fortunate to secure a bar space in their foyer, creating a charming wine bar in Nyhavn, Copenhagen—a place where you'll always run into familiar faces.

/How did it pop to your mind opening a bar?

It has always been a childhood dream of mine to open a bar. Earlier this year, I began to outline my concept on paper. The opportunity presented itself when my girlfriend's cousin hosted a fantastic party, during which I had the pleasure of meeting this girl who had a talent for mixing cocktails. She shared her plans to open a bar, and I felt the need to grab the opportunity and join in. After a few drinks and conversations, we decided to collaborate and embark on our bar project. Our grand opening took place on September 1st.

/Describe your go-to uniform?

At the moment, I'm rocking wide trousers or baggy jeans paired with an oversized blazer and a cropped t-shirt. It's a super easy and cool look that works well both for day and night.

/Your favorite piece(s) from the new AW23 collection, and where would you wear it?

I had the privilege of wearing the Johan blazer for the Ole Lynggaard anniversary event, pairing it with baggy brown pants and a nice t-shirt. It created a phenomenal look. A fun anecdote from that day was when a young kid, aged 10-12, approached me and commented that I looked like Harry Styles in that outfit. Uncertain whether it was a compliment, I asked him if he liked Harry Styles, and he replied in the negative. He then inquired if I had seen Harry Styles perform in Horsens recently. It was quite amusing – how this generation looks up to someone like Harry Styles, yet some still have reservations about embracing him as a role model as boys.

/Working as an actor, your clothes on set are a part of your character. Do you think clothes can have an effect on one’s mindset?

Obviously, for me, clothes serve as a natural companion to confidence. Dressing comes naturally to me, and wearing the right clothes makes me feel comfortable empowers me to tackle my day with assurance. On-screen, this becomes exceptionally important. When you feel that the clothes align seamlessly with the character and provide comfort, it unquestionably elevates one's performance and instills a sense of ease. It's not just about selling it to the audience, but also believing in it yourself. This sensation extends to every aspect, encompassing not only appearance, but also hairstyle, makeup, and costume – each element contributing to the overall performance.

/ At a young age you have already an international acting career, how does it feel to get this much attention from the world?

In Denmark, there's a notably laid-back atmosphere, especially in Copenhagen, which can make it a bit challenging to discuss because you might not experience it in your day-to-day life. Nevertheless, I genuinely cherish those moments when people approach me on the street, give a friendly hello, and share their backgrounds, often mentioning that they've recently watched 'Borgen.' It's somewhat surreal to be recognized on the streets, but to be honest, it strikes a delightful balance. It's not like constantly being in the spotlight, and that can be quite refreshing.

//How will you spend your fall?

My girlfriend and I recently acquired this vintage Mercedes from the 1980s. We're planning to go on some drives, enjoy picnics in scenic spots, and immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature during late-night cruises. Weather may affect our plans, but if it's not suitable for outdoor activities, we'll relax indoors, perhaps indulging in ice cream from a nearby shop, all while spending time with loved ones who bring me comfort. I also look forward to strolling through town in my oversized coats, whether it's for the scenery, those late-night drives, or cozy evenings with good movies while the rain taps on the window

/One last thing you want to share?

This is something I enjoy doing from time to time - just a gentle reminder to everyone reading this: 'Remember to cherish the little things. We're all inhabitants of this tiny planet, and our time here is brief. So, be sure to find joy in every experience you go through. Live your life with a smile.
